On the Way to Work...

On the way to work today, I saw three crazy things. Actually, 4. Before we even left for work, the new guy who helps us the Singh's cook was putting Mr. Singh's bags in the car and on accident, Mr. Singh slammed the trunk door on his finger. He was really lucky because it was only the tip of his finger and nothing really happened to it. Just got really red. Then, I saw another accident. No one was hurt, but a car hit an autorickshaw. Since everyone is so impatient here, including Mr. Singh, we pulled up right on the accident, sat there for maybe 5 seconds, and then Mr. Singh started blowing his horn, telling them to get out of the way so we could proceed on our way to work. It would be way to nice to actually stop and get out of the car to make sure everyone was alright. Insurance doesn't really exist, so I guess that wasn't an issue. Then, I saw a small something similar to a pick up truck carrying 5 X 5 ft. slabs of ice. These slabs of ice were completely in the open and just melting in the sun. I have no idea how far he had to go, but it didn't make any sense! Right as I was thinking how stupid transporting those ice slabs was, we came to a stop. I looked over to the right and there were all of these "monks" carrying flags and water. I asked Mr. Singh what was going on and these "travelling monks" walk 500 kilometers every time during this month to pay tribute to Shiva. 500 kilometers!!! So traffic was stopped and we got to watch all of them march/walk towards to the temple, carrying water and flowers from the Ganges River.

I'll post more later, but this was an unusual drive to work and I didn't want to forget it. Hope everyone is doing well!

...But first, first you must travel a long and difficult road - a road fraught with peril, uh-huh, and pregnant with adventure. You shall see things wonderful to tell. You shall see a cow on the roof of a cottonhouse, uh-huh, and oh, so many startlements...
...I cannot say how long this road shall be. But fear not the obstacles in your path, for Fate has vouchsafed your reward. And though the road may wind, and yea, your hearts grow weary, still shall ye foller the
way, even unto your salvation.
O Brother Where Art Thou?

Whew...so glad to read this post and know that the only pain and suffering you witnessed was the finger situation! After hearing about the bombings, I was thinking you were going to tell of how on the way to work a bomb exploded right beside you, but luckily you were able to duck behind a car right at the last second, and you chased some bad guys down a side street on a moped and a handgun that just happened to be available, then after a crazy die hard chase, turned them into authorities and then went on to save countless lives and had just been decorated a war hero in the midst of senseless Hindu and Muslim feuds.

Ya..sorry...my mind has a mind of it's own. Glad you're safe. :b

Hey Ben- We thought we had an exciting evening in Goshen. We went to eat at the Mexican restaurant and had a flat tire (read blow-out) on the way back. We were in Erv's car and a truck was following us. We were looking for a place to pull off and the truck pulled up beside us and asked if we knew we had a flat. We told him that we did and we were just pulling into the church ahead so we could change it. He followed us and got his tools out( ours were buried under 10 Meijjer sacks)and started taking the lug nuts off. Erv and gpa were trying to get the jack out when another truck stops and says, Hey, I have a floor jack" and runs back to his truck and jacks the car up. By then, the men have the spare tire out and the first guy is ready for it and put it on. Almost like an Indy pitstop!! Anyway, the first guy tried to get up- and that was the first any of us noticed that he was crippled. He more or less staggered toward his truck and both men refused to take any money. We just couldn't believe our good fortune-to be at the right place at the right time!! It is nothing like your experience, but I think we all feel God looking over us!!! Love, Gma
